The Main Plot as of July 15th, 2009
Here’s an updated photo of the main plot. Chard, spinach, carrots, beets, radishes, potatoes, and tomatoes from front to back on the left and peas, kohlrabi, rutabega, beans, okra, eggplant, onions, broccoli raab, broccoli, lettuces, and cabbage from front to back on the right. A lot more veggies than the picture from late April, a lot more weeds too.
Overall, things have gone well so far. There are definitely things we are going to do differently next season, and there are things that we are very happy with this year and hope to improve upon next year. There’s talk of a greenhouse in the fall and perhaps a high tunnel as well, both of these would be a great help for getting our veggies out to market much sooner in the year.
Below you’ll find a “Coming Attractions” of sort. We had the camera out in the garden and were just snapping away so we thought we’d share a few more photos…

Our Wildflower Patch
I still need to work on identifying the wildflowes but even without a name they’re still nice to look at…

Our “Vines”
This is where we’ve got summer & winter squash, melons, pumpkins, & cucumbers growing surrounded by corn that took a hit ealry in the season. This space is roughly 100′ x 100′.

Baby Tomatoes
Slowly but surely the tomatoes are coming…

Peas
These guys should be making an appearance on Saturday if we can stop ourselves from snacking on them.

Onions and Weeds
Here’s a good example of our weed situation. Weeded bed of onions and path on the right, un-weeded path on the left. It’s amazing what the weeds can do in two weeks!

Romaine Lettuce
Barring any deer, some beautiful Romaine will be in on Saturday.

Kohlrabi
The Sputnik of the vegetable world.. These guys are probably two weeks out.

Some nice Genovese Basil, like the kohlrabi these need a couple more weeks.

Zucchini
These guys will be ready on Saturday but I’m sorry to say you will not see them, they will not make it off the farm. However, there will be many more that will make to market.

Wildflower
Here’s a good one to end on… Just a good photo of one of our flowers. See you on Saturday!
